dokis fnA state of emergency has been issued in Dokis First Nation because of the closure of the community water system.

Residents there are advised not to drink from the system and public buildings will be closed until further notice.

On the community’s website, officials say equipment in the water plant is 25 years old.

They go on to say there has been a breakdown in the diesel line from the generator which has leaked into the reservoir.

Water bottles are being given out between 5 pm and 8 pm daily until future water sampling tests are good for drinking purposes.

Overall, officials say it could take up to a few weeks until all traces of diesel are removed and adequate repairs are completed to the generator and reservoir.
