mail box There’s been a lot of talk in the news about proposed cuts to Canada Post.

The union that represents its employees will be bringing the Save Canada Post Caravan through North Bay tomorrow. It will be set up at the Best Western for a town hall at 4:30pm.

Keith Bradford is the president of Local 576 of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. He says petitions will be available for people to sign.

They call on the government and Canada Post to rescind the cuts already announced.

Bradford says one of the proposed reductions is in home mail box delivery. He says it’s important to maintain because the current service is needed by a lot of Canadians including the elderly and small business owners.

Bradford says in terms of dollars North Bay would feel a negative impact.  He says there would be 19 jobs lost in North Bay if the cuts stand at Canada Post. Bradford says Canada Post is making money with $194-million last year.

He suggests the enhancement of postal banking would increase those revenues further.
