Water Rates meeting Phasing in a fixed-variable split for the water meters is not a done deal.

At yesterday’s (Monday’s) Water Rates Committee Meeting Chair George Maroosis says it’s something that should be approached on a yearly basis.

He says moving around the rates means subjecting larger users to larger payments.

The current plan has the payment rate at a 60 fixed 40 variable split cost, moving into a 30-70 split by 2019, but he says council may not want to set the rates that far.

He says unforeseen budget constraints and other circumstances may force some changes. The committee did agree to have payments based on water meter size, with the value of 99 cents per cubic meter.

Another meeting will take place next Monday, with a full proposal expected to come to Council on October 8th.
