NU lakersWomen’s soccer was a draw, men’s soccer was victorious and women’s hockey suffered a loss yesterday.

First, the Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team had a draw yesterday.

The team was battling the UOIT Ridgebacks for 90 minutes until the game was called with no points on the board. Both teams tried their hardest, with the Ridgebacks taking 8 shots on net, while the Lakers took 5.

Lakers goalkeeper Carlee Bennard improved her personal record with her performance last night to 4-4-2, 3 of those ten games were shutouts.

Next up for the women’s team is the final in their home game series against Trent Excalibur this afternoon. Kickoff is at noon.

 

Next up, the Nipissing Lakers men’s soccer team have been dominate for the past month and continue to be, after a 3-1 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks. However, the Lakers need to continue to win in order to qualify for the playoffs.

Andy Bago scored the opening goal seven minutes in, and eight minutes later, the ridge backs tied it up. After that, Brandon TeBrake scored early in the second for the Lakers, and Jean-Michel Paulin secured the win 6 min later. Grainger Munro made three saves in the game, one of them against a penalty kick.

Up next is the final home game for the Lakers today, against the Trent Excalibur. Kick-off is 2:30

 

And so far, this season has been rough on the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team. After three straight losses, the Lakers fell again to the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0.

North Bay native Robyn DeGagne scored 2 goals for the Golden Hawks while Lakers goaltender Jackie Rochefort, made 24 saves in the loss.

The Lakers pulled their goalie after the first goal, and even with six players on the ice, the Lakers were unable to score.

The women’s team still have a chance to improve their season standing, as there are still 21 games left in the regular season.
