Bombardier was using the local aerospace park to put finishing touches on their waterbombers after assembly in Montreal.

But, that will no longer be the case after a company official told BayToday they’ve given a 90 day notice that they will end their lease agreement.

Chair of Community Services Mark King says if there isn’t demand for the product they are building, then they are forced to make a move.

He says “it is a loss – but it’s not something that will hurt in the long-term.”

He says they didn’t use a lot of the local services.

King adds this could force them to re-examine the province to province trade system – in the hopes of bringing some work back to North Bay.

He says “the province of Ontario moved the refurb from Ontario Northland to Montreal. I often thought that this trade agreement was supposed to be a two-way street.”

King says it’s something the provincial leaders should have a look at. King was asked what this means in terms of building up business at the Airport Industrial Business Park.

He says “I don’t think they were a major player in the process and I don’t think it’s the end of the world.”

According to Bombardier permanent employees were offered employment elsewhere in the company.
