It’s a dark day in Rock as legendary Rush drummer, Neil Peart has retired from music. Neil had these words to say in a recent interview after sighting his daughter as one of the reasons he’s hanging up the sticks “Like all athletes, there comes a time to take yourself out of the game.” Rush may have been hinting at retirement for a while now but this certainly comes as a shock to most fans of the Canadian prog rockers. Peart, who’s now 63-years-young, joined the band back in 1974, just before their first U.S. tour. The band has yet to issue a statement clarifying whether these reports are referring only to his retirement as a touring drummer or if this will put a close to Rush’s illustrious 40-year career. If this does spell the end for the “professor”, he can look back at a career full of musical achievements, including being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, given the Order of Canada and granted an honorary Doctorate Of Music from Nipissing University.
Neil Peart… one of the best to ever rock the skins.
