There’s definitely going to be some heartache tonight as legendary Eagles founder Glenn Frey has passed away from intestinal issues at age 67. The terrible run continues for rock and roll as Frey is added to a lengthy list of rock legends who’ve passed away recently. A list that already includes legendary bluesman B.B. King, Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland, Soul singer Natalie Cole, Motorhead frontman Lemmy and just recently David Bowie who released the first #1 Album of his career, ‘Blackstar,’ just days before his passing at age 69.
A tough pill to swallow for most who consider Glenn to be one of the best songwriters in rock history. A quick look at Glenn’s resume will confirm that. Frey was responsible for such classics as ‘Take It Easy,’ ‘Lyin’ Eyes,’ and ‘Heartache Tonight.’ He also put his stamp on smash hits ‘Desperado’ and ‘Hotel California’ which he co-wrote with longtime friend and bandmate Don Henley. The tandem of Frey and Henley scored the band 6 Grammys. Don remembers Glenn as “a spark plug” and “the one who started it all.” Don writes, “Glenn was like a brother to me”, “Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some.”
