Health Unit logoCity officials, members of the Near North District School Board and Parents of Alliance and Vincent Massey attended the Walking School Bus Program information session  on Wednesday.

The program is designed to benefit parents of young children who don’t have the means to supervise their child’s walk to school.

Alex Meyer is a School Health Promoter with the local Health Unit and he says this program is designed specifically to meet the needs of the community.

There was sufficient support from parents at Alliance and Vincent Massey to move forward with a concrete plan to potentially have in place for the 2016-2017 school year.

Meyer says there was discussion on where the pick-up and drop off area for bus would start, who could be the leader and the route the children would take.

He says the program is a tool for children to learn about pedestrian safety as well as getting quality exercise.
