police cruiser winter2A busy weekend for North Bay Police with 234 calls for service and 18 people arrested.

The offences included theft under $5,000, forcible confinement, unlawful in dwelling, criminal harassment, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, carry concealed weapon and more.

(Weapon Charge)

North Bay Police have charged a 31 year old man following a domestic violence incident from last Tuesday.

It is alleged on that evening around 9:30pm an argument between the accused and his common-law spouse turned violent when he hit her with a household object.

The male was arrested and his name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim. He is charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

(Fraud Charges)

One man is facing five charges after an incident on January 18th in which a resident’s wallet was stolen and her identity was impersonated.

It is alleged the accused went into the medical office building in North Bay between 11:30am and 2:15pm on that Monday.

They report the male removed the car keys from a staff member coat, located that staff member’s vehicle in the parking lot and used the keys to enter the vehicle and took the wallet from the vehicle.

Later that afternoon, police report the male attempted to use the female victim’s credit card to make cash advanced and when he was unsuccessful he fraudulently impersonated the victim when he called the credit card company who then changed the PIN number for the credit card.

The accused then successfully made a cash advance from an ATM using that credit card.

26 year old Joseph Allen McKenzie of North Bay is charged with identity fraud, breach of probation and three other counts.

(RIDE Stolen Vehicle)

North Bay Police Service conducted a RIDE check this past weekend with 462 vehicles stopped.

Three drivers were charged with Highway Traffic Infractions and one was charged with drive over 80.

Meantime, Police report they located a stolen vehicle through the RIDE check.

On Friday, police received a call about a stolen vehicle which was taken from the McIntyre Street East parking lot.

Two hours after the call a 21 year old North Bay male was stopped in the RIDE check with a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle.

Upon further investigation police arrested and charged the driver.

Zachary Charles McEdwards is charged with Driving over 80 and one count of theft of a motor vehicle.

(Shoplifting)

Three North Bay residents have been charged following a shoplifting incident that took place yesterday afternoon.

Police say just before 2pm the first accused took an empty cart into a Fisher Street retail store and proceeded to fill reusable grocery bags with a variety of store items, including food and electronics.

The male then wheeled the cart to the front of the store and gave it to the female co-accused who left the store with the items without paying for them.

The woman then left the cart full of it items outside the store by the front door, where another male retrieved the bags from the cart and put them into a second cart before fleeing the scene. Police located and arrested all three accused outside the store.

A 47 year old male is charged with one count of theft under $5,000 and one count of breach of probation.

A 43-year old woman and a 48 year old man face one count of theft under $5,000.

(Forcible Confinement)

A 52 year old man has been charged with forcible confinement following an investigation by North Bay Police.

Police say it is alleged on Sunday morning, a female registered nurse entered the accused’s room in the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.

The accused then closed the door and prevented the nurse from leaving the room.

Another nurse came to the victim’s assistance as well as hospital security. The victim was not physically injured as a result.

 (Unlawful in dwelling)

A 27 year old North Bay man is facing one count of unlawfully in a dwelling.

North Bay Police say it is alleged early this morning (Monday) a male forced his way into his girlfriend’s residence, causing damage before leaving on foot.

The victim is not injured and police located and arrested him shortly thereafter.

(Threatening Messages)

North Bay Police have arrested and charged a 23 year old North Bay male with two counts of criminal harassment and two counts of uttering threats following an investigation from Sunday.

It is alleged just before noon, police received a call from a complainant who received threatening messages from a man she was in contact with through the online dating website Plenty of Fish.

Shortly after noon, police received a second call about the same subject. Police started an investigation and arrested the 23 year old male.

(Break and Enter)

North Bay Police have arrested a 48 year old male after an investigation to a break and enter case.

It is alleged on Sunday around 12:10 a.m. a male pushed his way into a residential unit without invitation and caused damage to items inside.

The accused also allegedly assaulted the male and female residents.

As a result the male victim required medical attention for his non-life-threatening injuries.

James Montgomery Stevens is charged with one count of break and enter with intent, one count of assault causing bodily harm, one count of assault and one count of mischief under $5,000.

A separate incident has also led to break and enter charges for a North Bay male.

Police say it is alleged on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. the accused entered the garage of a residential property and stole a mountain bicycle from within.

49 year old Dwayne Edwin Heintz of North Bay is charged with one count of break, enter and commit.

(Obstruct Police)

A 25 year old North Bay man is facing several charges after a traffic stop on Bloem Street on Saturday.

It is alleged shortly before 2am the accused used a false name to identify himself to police to avoid being arrested on an outstanding warrant.

A police search revealed he was in possession of 0.3 grams of cocaine.

The 25 year old male is charged with one count of obstruct peace officer and one count of possession of cocaine.
