The city councillor and board member for the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities was speaking in reference to a petition which is gaining some steam.

The petition on change.org is asking northerners to support the idea of a province of Northern Ontario, separate from southern Ontario.

Bain says we need to stick together.

He says “there are great opportunities for northern Ontario through the ring of fire, mining and the resources through forestry and agriculture. We can once again play a significant role in the economy so we look forward to being a part of Ontario.”

Bain says he doesn’t believe a split would be a wise decision.
