NU lakersBoth Nipissing Lakers basketball teams were in action last night.

In their final weekend of local play, the Nipissing Lakers men’s and women’s basketball hoped to walk away with at least one victory.

Friday night, the women’s team fell to Ottawa and last night, they just couldn’t close it, losing 59-43 against the Carleton Ravens.

The game started out with the Ravens leading with a score of 12-4.

Carleton held on to that lead with 34-18 on the scoreboard at the end of the second quarter.

The Lakers had more of an offensive second half as they scored 7 points early on, but the Ravens wanted none of that, finishing the third quarter with a 51-31 lead.

The final quarter did see Nipissing outscore Carleton but ultimately, the Ravens walked away with a win.

Clair Abbott made the most points for the Lakers at 22. Maeve Therriault added six, and Jamie Soffer and Alexe Galipeau-Wilson each added four.
This was the Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team’s second season in the OUA and once again failed to enter the playoffs.

That would have been hard enough, but in their final game of the season, they fell to the Carleton Ravens 68-39.

The game stared close with the Ravens in an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

When halftime hit the court, Carlton jumped to a 35-17 lead and felt confident in their victory.

30 minutes into the 3rd quarter, the Ravens extended their lead by 14 points, increasing their score to 59-27 over the Lakers.

Nipissing did outscore Carlton in the fourth quarter but the game was already won at that point.

Joey Puddister led the Lakers with 11 points, Marcus Lewis had 10 and Kalil Langston added five points for Nipissing in defeat.
