Plenty on the go in local sports

The OUA Indoor Track and Field Championship was held on the weekend and it was North Bay’s Alison Fung‘s best meet of the season.

The University of Guelph Pole vaulter was 4th in her event with a season best 3.75 metres.

Fellow Gryphon Samantha Allegro also cleared 3.75m but did so on her first attempt while Fung needed three attempts to clear the same height.

Meantime, Fung also won gold as the Gryphon women won the team title.

Her results this weekend secured her top 10 ranking with the top 12 competing at Nationals mid-March at York University.

The second round of the OUA women’s hockey playoffs are set.

Nipissing entertains Western in game one of their best of three series on Wednesday night at Memorial Gardens.

Game two goes Saturday in London with game three, if necessary on Sunday, also in London.

The North Bay Battalion played two games this past weekend.

On Friday night they lost 4-0 to the Erie Otters before winning 6-1 over the Bulldogs on Saturday night in Hamilton.

The Troops have 71 points, three back of the Barrie Colts for the Central Division lead.

They’re home to Owen Sound on Thursday.

In the NOJHL, the Powassan Voodoos entertain Elliot Lake tonight (Mon).

Game time is 7 o’clock at the Powassan Sportsplex.

And game two of a three game, four point series between the North Bay Ice Boltz Midget AA girls and Sudbury Lady Wolves goes tonight (Monday) at 7:15 pm at Memorial Gardens.

Admission to the Lower Lakes playoff game is free.

In game one on Saturday, North Bay battled back from a 3-1 deficit early in the third to tie Ontario’s #1 ranked Lady Wolves.
