North Bay Battalion captain Mike Amadio (Photo by Terry Wilson/OHL Images) is closing in on a franchise goal scoring record after a win in Flint, Michigan on Sunday, the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team lost a tough 1-0 decision in triple overtime and three OFSAA titles are up for grabs in North Bay this week.

In the OHL, the North Bay Battalion picked up their only two points of the weekend in a lopsided 8-2 win over the Flint Firebirds yesterday (Sunday).

The Troops had six different goals scorers including a pair from Captain Mike Amadio who is one goal away from tying the franchise record of 47 goals in a season.

Brett McKenzie also scored twice for North Bay with Justin Brazeau, Zach Poirier, Kyle Potts and Max Kislinger adding singles. 

Jake Smith made 45 saves on 47 shots in the win.

The Battalion are on the road for three straight games this weekend, starting with Peterborough on Thursday.

Triple overtime loss for Nipissing

 

In OUA women’s hockey, the Nipissing Lakers season is over.

This after a tough 1-0 loss in triple overtime to Western yesterday (Sunday).

The Mustangs win the series 2-1 and advance to the final.

Lakers netminder Jackie Rochefort made 39 saves in the loss.

 

OFSAA curling and volleyball in North Bay

 

Hundreds of student athletes have converged on North Bay.

The OFSAA Boys and Girls Curling events get started this morning (8am Monday) at the Granite Club.

40 teams are taking part including both Widdifield teams.

Meantime, 20 teams are competing in the OFSAA “AAA” girls volleyball championship.

Games are being played Chippewa, West Ferris, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall, Odyssee, Nipissing and Canadore.
