(Submitted) The West Ferris 63’s won silver at the U16 provincial ringette championship in Timmins yesterday (Sunday).

The team came on strong in the tournament ending up with a 5-1 record after round robin play and earning an automatic by into the final game.

They lost 5-2 to a team from Guelph in the final.

Three of the division’s five top scorers were West Ferris players and the team had the lowest number of goals against.

The team ends their season with 2 gold and 3 silver medals in five tournaments.

According to West Ferris Ringette Association President, Kelli Van Buskirk, due to the distance between teams in the North, all of the West Ferris rep teams are tournament teams only, competing in tournaments against teams from the rest of Ontario who routinely play in regional A loops. “To end up as the second place team in all of Ontario is a significant accomplishment. The team worked hard all year and we couldn’t be prouder” she says.

The Association’s U12 team will participate in their Provincial Championships in April and are hoping to add to their two golds by bringing home another medal.
