Police Services Board
Police Chief Shawn Devine highlights successes with the Community Hub and Mobile Crisis initiatives at this weeks city police services board meeting.

Kudos for city police and their partners from the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

It all involves the local Community Hub program and a media article in Toronto.

Police Chief Shawn Devine says the minister pointed to moving forward on community mobilization and engagement.

He says that goes hand in hand with the work done by the local community hub. “Involving the communtiy, identifying of high risk individuals and instead of looking at incarceration or charging the person, you look at solving the problem.”

Meantime, Devine says there have also been successes with the Mobile Crisis initiative involving the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

That involves a psychiatric nurse, who is trained in dealing with crisis, working with one of their officers.

Devine says they’re making better assessments of where people are in stage of crisis and making more educated decisions on people who are being apprehended to be assessed.

He says fewer people are being apprehended and there’s a reduced wait time in hospital for those who are.

Devine also says they’re providing better care for those involved.
