Good news in the monthly crime stats from North Bay Police.

Deputy Chief Scott Tod says as of the end of February, sexual offenses, assaults and total criminal offenses were all down year to year.

In fact, sexual offenses were down from 19 to 8 and assaults from 88 to 49.

Up were break and enters by 18 to 35.

Tod says there’s good effective work being done by police service members, but also great collaboration between police and the community when it comes to mental health issues.

Meantime, calls for service showed a slight decrease by 22.

Overall, Tod says the numbers are pretty consistent as they are not changing to a great degree.

Total criminal offenses are at 357, down from 524.

Drug charges are virtually unchanged at 21.
