Tax bills coming next month

The city’s Chief Financial Officer Margaret Karpenko says the 2017 tax bills will be out in the first week of June.

Whether or not property owners will be paying more depends on their assessment.

If looking at a small decrease of 2.64 %, the tax bill won’t change a lot.

Karpenko says that will be about $10 lower.

If the assessment is over 5 per cent less, property owners will see a savings of around $100, but if there’s no assessment change, the tax bill will be about $80 higher.

In terms of tax classes, one changed in last week’s provincial budget.

Karpenko says the government is limiting the burden of that tax class, which will put more pressure into the other major tax classes.

Tax bills must be paid by the end of June.
