Gord Downie and his Tragically Hip bandmates will soon be appointed to the Order Of Canada. What better time to appoint Canada’s favourite band to Canada’s highest honour than on the 150th birthday of this great country.

Gord will be issued insignia of the Order of Canada for his outstanding leadership, working for Indigenous issues. The honour of course, coming after he and Jeff Lemire released the project Secret Path last year. The Juno Award winning album and graphic novel told the story of a 12-year Anishinaabe boy named Chanie Wenjack who died back in 1966 while trying to return home after escaping from an Indian residential school. All proceeds from the album and book were donated to the University of Manitoba’s National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation project.

Rob Baker, Gord Sinclair, Johnny Fay and Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip will also be appointed members of the Order of Canada for their contribution to Canadian music and support of various social and environmental causes.
