Season 2 of Cardinal hasn’t even aired yet and production is already underway on Season 3.

Filming is taking place in North Bay and Toronto.

Mayor Al McDonald says it’s incredible news for the city.

“We’ve had great success with the film industry and it’s continuing to grow here in the city, it’s pumping millions and millions of dollars into our local economy,” he says.

McDonald says people will see the actors getting work, but there’s everyone behind the cameras too.

“There’s caterers, electricians, hotels and restaurants, supplies and security and one thing that we’ve really seen is it’s keeping young people in our community that are interested in film, so there’s enough work for them to keep them going,” he adds.

McDonald says the city is making a name for itself in the TV and film industry and co-operation from the public is involved with that success too.

In a release, officials described the third season, Cardinal: By The Time You Read This, “the autumn season starts to shroud Algonquin Bay, but the glorious fall colours can’t hide the town’s most gruesome double murder for long. As Cardinal and Delorme’s detective work brings them precariously close to a doomsday cult with nothing to lose, Cardinal launches his own investigation into a case far more personal and dangerous.”

They say the first season of Cardinal was the #1 new Canadian drama of the 2016/17 broadcast season, averaging 1.1 million total viewers weekly, and received an unprecedented two-cycle renewal.

The release goes on to say that eOne has successfully licensed the series internationally with the first season of Cardinal having aired in U.S., U.K., France, Spain, and Scandinavia, among other territories.

The second season of Cardinal recently wrapped production and is slated to premiere as part of CTV and Super Écran’s 2017/18 season.
