The province of Ontario took a huge stand against scalpers today, passing legislation which will effectively ban the use of “scalper bots.” The law also caps the resale value of tickets through the secondary market. Tickets sold through resale market sites like StubHub will now be capped. Not only that, but sellers will also now have to disclose the value of surcharges.

This is a huge win for concertgoers, meaning we’ll encounter less situations like the one we saw with the Tragically Hip last summer where scalpers earned somewhere in the range of an estimated $25-35million on the resale market.
