A movie theater in Innaloo, Western Australia, is under fire after accidentally showing a trailer for the horror movie Hereditary before a screening of the family film Peter Rabbit. The trailer for Hereditary features actress Toni Collette repeatedly screaming, a man on fire, a boy smashing his head on a desk until it bleeds, and a girl cutting off a pigeon’s head with scissors. WA Today reports that the showing of Peter Rabit at Event Cinemas had “at least 40 children in it” when the trailer for Hereditary began and that some families fled the cinema. “It was dreadful,” a theatergoer recalls. “Very quickly you could tell this was not a kid’s film. Parents were yelling at the projectionist to stop, covering their kids’ eyes and ears.” Event Cinemas reportedly shut off the screen amid the chaos and offered movie passes to the families to make up for the mistake. Critics have called Hereditary one of the scariest films in years.
Here’s the trailer for the film.
