The future of the North Bay Battalion will be front and centre this weekend as the annual orientation camp takes place.

There’ll be intra squad games Saturday from 3-5 and Sunday from 9-11 am at Memorial Gardens.

Coach Stan Butler says the list of 36 players taking part includes Battalion draft picks from the last two years and free agent invites.

“It’s gets them on the ice with kids their own age and see how they do. For us, it gives us measuring points from a fitness standpoint and an evaluation standpoint,” he says.

Butler says sometimes a relative unknown can surprise.

“This weekend’s a door opener for a lot of people. It can give a lot of guys an opportunity and that’s what you want for guys to get that chance,” Butler says.
