Paul McCartney returned to London’s Abbey Road crossing on Monday, less than a month away from the 49th anniversary of the photograph that made the cover of The Beatles’ Abbey Road. Consequence of Sound reports that McCartney’s eldest daughter Mary recorded her dad making the iconic walk on his way to a surprise gig at Abbey Road Studios. Iain Macmillan first captured the band crossing Abbey Road, outside London’s then-EMI Studios, on August 8, 1969. While McCartney was famously barefoot in the original picture, he opted for sandals in the updated take. McCartney will release his latest solo album, Egypt Station, on September 7. Check out the video from the historic return.
