Local residents are being encouraged to circle Wednesday, June 12th on the calendar.

That’s when the 9th annual Armed Forces Day is taking place at the North Bay waterfront.

Honourary Colonel George Burton says there’s plenty of great demonstrations lined up.

“We’re looking forward to having the CF-18 Demo Team here, along with the Snowbirds, and we’re still working on a surprise or two to be confirmed as we get closer to the date,” he says.

The 22 Wing Band will be performing, plus there’s military static displays, too.

Mayor Al McDonald, who’s father was a military pilot, says the event is held to honour the service of local military members.

“It’s an opportunity for us to just say thank you. These men and women put their lives on the line for our country, we’re proud of them as peacekeepers,” he says.

22 Wing Commander Col Mark Roberts says they know the community supports them.

“The bond we have with the community it’s like none-other. I’ve been to many bases and I’ve said this before, the relationship between the military community and city here is like none I’ve ever seen,” he says.
