The above average snow depth appears to have impacted another local business.

A huge section of the roof at Auntie Jane’s restaurant on the overpass has collapsed.

City fire crews were called by a passerby and Deputy Chief of Operations Greg Saunders says the restaurant was closed at the time.

“We don’t know what happened, I suspect it’s the snow load on the building, thankfully it’s after the restaurant is closed, as you can see there’s substantial damage here, thankfully everyone is safe,” he says. “We’ve secured the building, we’ve secured the utilities, but a reminder that it’s been a heavy winter this year.”

North Bay Fire crews have the area around the restaurant blocked off.

Meantime, Laporte’s Nursery and Garden Centre reported on social media that all six of their retail greenhouses collapsed in mid-February because of the heavy snow load.

They also say despite the loss they are still open for business.
