A special weather statement has been issued for a swath of northeastern Ontario, from Greater Sudbury through North Bay.

Environment Canada says after a night of moderate to heavy rain, more heavy rain is expected today.

Total amounts of 30 to 50 mm are possible in some areas by the time it tapers off tonight.

The agency also says some mixing with wet snow is possible over higher elevations.

At 36.4 mm, the rainfall and precipitation records for October 16th in North Bay were both set in 1992.
