Nearly $2 million is flowing from the province to Nipissing for local film productions and small businesses.
MPP Vic Fedeli announced the bulk of the money, $1.4 million, is supporting three film and TV productions.
Fedeli says all major sectors in the local economy were touched on with the announcement.

“A little bit of retail, a little bit of manufacturing, a lot of mining and quite a bit of film work. These are the mainstays of Nipissing,” he says.

The film and TV productions include a TV Movie ‘Crossword Mystery’ Season One, and a couple feature films called ‘The Kid Detective’ and ‘The Cosmic Dawn.’

Half a million dollars is also supporting four small businesses, creating 17 full-time jobs.

The businesses include Resolution Machining, Castle Glass and Mirror, Wand Family Farm and Canalec Manufacturing and Development.

The announcement was made at Resolution Machining which is getting $146,000.

General Manager Mate Dukovac on how the money will be used.

“A new large band saw, a CNC brake press, a CNC High definition plasma table and a large welder,” he says.

He says they now can do all their business in house which will save money and kick start their operation.

Overall, Fedeli says the funding supports economic diversity and growth.

Investments include:
– $500,000 to HP Crossword Mystery Productions Inc. to produce the television movie Crossword Mystery Season 1
– $500,000 to Kid Detective Productions Inc. to produce the feature film The Kid Detective
– $421,775 to Cosmic Dawn Entertainment Inc. to produce the feature film The Cosmic Dawn
Half a million dollars is also supporting four small businesses, creating 17 full-time jobs.
Investments include:
– $213,618 to Canelec Manufacturing & Development Inc. to build a new warehouse and purchase specialized equipment to meet the need for mining electrical equipment
– $196,058 to Castle Glass & Mirror to expand its glass manufacturing operations
– $146,065 to Resolution Machining to purchase specialized machinery for custom machining, fabrication and welding
– $8,475 to Wand Family Farm to purchase equipment and expand its cattle and lamb farming operations
