2019 a good building year in North Bay

2019 was quite the year for new construction in North Bay.
Mayor Al McDonald says building permit values were at a near-record high.
“Second highest in our history, around $93 million,” he says.
Most building categories were up, with one sector doing extremely well.
“Commercial in 2019 was almost as much as ’17 and ’18 combined,” McDonald adds.
Residential and industrial also saw increases, while institutional was down.
Along with new restaurants, a new hotel, the university student centre and Marina Point expansion, there’s construction of the meat packing and galvanizing plants, too.
“It’s incredible to see everywhere you turn it seems like there’s a new building going up and that is so important for the future of the City of North Bay,” he says.
McDonald also says 2020 is already looking like it will be a better year.
