Nearly 3.3 million dollars in provincial funding is flowing to 11 communities in Nipissing for infrastructure.
MPP Vic Fedeli announced the money from the Ontario Community Infrastucture Fund Friday morning.
The City of North Bay is receiving most of the funding, 2.6 million dollars.
Mayor Al McDonald says the funds will add to the funds they use for various infrastructure projects.

“It is about $100,000 more than last year. This council believes in growth and re-investing in infrastructure. It will be spent on infrastructure this year,” he says.

It can be used to build and repair roads, bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure.

Fedeli says the government has raised the minimum for each community in this announcement and that’s especially important for the smaller centres like Mattawan Township for example.

“They have 112 people and would have got nothing without this change. They need infrastructure for the ski hill and road and bridge infrastructure too. This is critical that there’s a sustainable and minimum amount they can count on every year,” he says.

Fedeli says the money can be earmarked for smaller projects or larger ones whatever the municipality wishes.
