Twenty high school basketball teams are in the city for the OFSAA ‘A’ boys championship.

West Ferris is hosting the tournament with games also being played at Chippewa and Nipissing University.

The West Ferris Trojans are 0-1 at the championship.

They lost their opener 46-35 to Westminster Secondary School from London.

Their next game is at 6 pm versus Nicholson Catholic.

“All of the committee’s hard work is coming together and we are anticipating an excellent tournament with some very high caliber basketball,” said convenor Brandon Grube.

Officials say local hotels and restaurants will see an increase in business over the course of the tournament with 19 teams visiting the city.

“The economic benefit to the city is huge. The city and local businesses are grateful for the hosts schools, the organizing committee and the administration at West Ferris. The event is going to be top notch,” added Larry Tougas, the Sports Tourism Coordinator for Tourism North Bay.
