Sobeys Community Action Fund supports four local groups

Four area groups have received financial support from the Sobeys Community Action Fund.

Store Manager of the Sobeys on Algonquin, Paul Belanger says when they heard about Justin Lahaie and Hillcrest Cabinets making 3D printed face shields for frontline workers with their own money, they wanted to help out, with financial support from the fund.

“He was doing this on his own dime, it was a perfect opportunity for us to lend a hand and it’s been great to partner up with Justin and see his project come to fruition,” Belanger says.

Support from the fund also went to the Food Bank, the Emergency Homeless Shelter and VON’s Meals On Wheels program locally.

Belanger says they’re proud to be able to give back to the community that supports them too.

“We have a saying here that ‘tough times don’t last but tough teams do’, and I’d also like to extend my thanks to the North Bay community who has supported us front line workers in the food business through this crisis as well,” he says.

Nationally, the Sobeys Community Action Fund has provided immediate relief to 22 vital food-based organizations and dozens of community organizations across the country.

Officials say in just a few short weeks, Sobeys has injected millions of dollars back into Canadian communities.
