Due to construction taking place on the Laurentian Ski Hill this summer the public is being asked to stay away.

They’re expanding the newest run and working on the Terrain Park and Slingshot.

Cam Graham is General Manager of the ski hill.

He says the hill is closed.

“We’ve got heavy equipment going. We’re working on the run and some snowmaking things so we would appreciate people staying off these areas,” Graham says.

Along with more skiable areas the work will help reduce snowmaking costs

“Because of the way it’s designed we’re used to have make a significant amount of snow underneath our lift line. Now, we put fill in there and rock and dirt and we’re seeding it and that’ll save us tons of money on snowmaking,” Graham says.

He encourages hikers, walkers, runners and cyclists to use the Laurentian Escarpment Trails and not the hill.

Graham says there’s no cost to use them.

The restricted area is located in the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s Laurentian Escarpment Conservation Area.

Officials say dog walkers are reminded to keep their pets on leash while on the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority trails.
