North Bay Council has given approval for the city to put in a funding request for enhanced cleaning on North Bay Transit vehicles.

Chair of Infrastructure and Operations Councillor Chris Mayne says there’s a Municipal Transit Enhanced Cleaning program and the province is currently receiving applications.

“This is a new fund specifically directed at recovering costs for cleaning and staff time to do that work. Overall, the city is expected to benefit from this $15 million fund by about $37,000,” he says.

Mayne says they clean vehicles three times a day to keep them safe to board and that impacts the buses which are taken off the road to be cleaned.

He says each time a bus has to be cleaned it’s not serving the public.

“The province has recognized that and dedicated more support to 110 municipalities and we’re one of those,” Mayne says.
