North Bay Police say they’ve received a complaint about a drone flying in West Ferris on Saturday during the noon hour.

No one was apprehended but police caution that drones cannot fly 5.6 kilometres (3 nautical miles) from airports without obtaining permission.

They say you need a drone pilot licence to fly drones that weigh from 250 grams up to and including 25 kilograms and you need to be 14 years old to get a basic license, 16 years old to get an advanced license and children younger than 14 must be supervised by someone with a license.

Police say fines for individuals not following the rules can range up to $1000 per violation.
