Ontario’s top medical health official says this year’s flu vaccine looks like it’s hitting the mark.

Dr. David Williams says the vaccine was carefully formulated to protect against four current flu strains based on recommendations from the World Health Organization.

He says as we head into peak flu season, the vaccine looks good.

“So far it looks like the flu vaccine is a good match, and it is still early in the season so there’s still time to get the flu vaccine, but remember it takes about two weeks for the vaccine to take full effect,” he says.

Dr. Williams says with so many people travelling, shopping or going to parties this time of year, the risk of being exposed to the flu is high – and the flu shot can help you avoid getting seriously ill and spreading the flu to others.
