Pope Francis has announced the appointment of the Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse, who is currently the Bishop of Alexandria-Cornwall.

Bishop Jean-Louis Plouffe has resigned after reaching the age of 75, as required by the Code of Canon Law and after 29 years of ministry in the Diocese.

Bishop Damphousse becomes the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie.

The date of his installation will be announced in the near future.
