North Bay Police have released more information on a collision that happened near Jett Avenue and 10th last Tuesday evening.

The initial report indicated two people were in the vehicle and one of them ran into Lake Nipissing while the other fled the scene.

Police now say there never was a 2nd person in the vehicle but there was a person in close proximity to the collision scene but not actually in the car.

The SIU says the body of a 20-year-old man who went missing in the lake was recovered on Wednesday.

The SIU says after the crash the male driver headed towards Lake Nipissing.

They say when police, fire services and EMS arrived on scene, the man entered the lake and swam further from shore despite requests for him to get out of the water.

North Bay Police say the cause of the collision can’t be determined pending the results of a post mortem examination and the results of the Special Investigations Unit’s investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Bay Police or Near North Crime Stoppers.
