Energy East pipelineA  lot of news in the last few days regarding the Energy East Pipeline Project. Last Thursday, the Ontario Energy Board said the environmental risks of the project holds more weight than the potential benefits and the OEB is also concerned about the impact the project would have on  natural gas prices saying they we would go up.  On Friday we talked to Mayor Al McDonald who was pleased to hear the boards recommendation.

His concern is that the project would go through an area that includes North Bay’s drinking water source that of course being Trout Lake

And  now , the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities says going the pipeline route is preferable to rail.

President Al Spacek says Trans Canada has a great reputation for being safe. He says in no way are they giving Trans Canada carte blanche or an endorsement but conditional on Trans Canada using the best and latest safe technology available.

Spacek says movement of rail is increasing so other options like pipeline need to be supported.
