Citizens of the year named

The Kiwanis Club of Nipissing has named its citizens of the year.
Sharon Fung and Dave Washington of the North Bay North Stars hockey team will receive their award in May.

The team was started because a few parents wanted their kids to play hockey and it has grown from that.

Sharon was asked if she’s been surprised by the teams growth. 

She says no as there was a need here for such a team and it was successful in other communities.

Infact, there are 2 North Stars teams now.

Fung says they have great support in the community and they’ve been overwhelmed by that.

The team has games and practices against the Nipissing Lakers and the North Bay Battalion among many others and plays big time tournaments out of town too.

This year they went to Kitchener and next year the plan is to go to Peterborough.
