National honours for Nipissing professor

Helping teachers around the province is something Dr. Glen Sharpe has done since becoming a professor at Nipissing University.

Now, Sharpe has been recognized for that work with the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award.

Sharpe says he’s honored and attributes it to keeping in contact with many graduated students through a Facebook group that includes 3,400 teachers across the province.

He says it’s a tool which helps those in the teaching profession reach out to others. He says teachers often feel isolated and alone and are hesitant to reach out, but if you have a personal relationship it’s much easier to come forward and admit the help is needed.
